Artist Five: Ron Mueck

RON MUECK IS HORRIFYING AND HERE IS WHY.

Ron Mueck was born in Melbourne, Australia. He is a hyperrealistic sculptor that works primarily in the United Kingdom and does some awful and terrifyingly realistic sculptures. He was the son of German toymakers, so he grew up experimenting with materials and techniques to create different things. It's always the toymakers.

BUT SERIOUSLY

"A Girl" Silicone, mixed media. 2008.
LOOK AT THESE THINGS

"Mask" Silicone, mixed media. 2008.
FREAKING

"Dead Dad" Silicone, mixed media. 1996.
HORRIFYING GOOD LORD

Clearly he isn't the most creative at titling his work.

Mueck's work fascinates me because he often works larger than life on details that would normally not be noticed otherwise. He transforms the normal into the grotesque with the glee of a Burton-esque maniac child wielding a magnifying class. I wouldn't change a thing about his work. I find it technically astounding and aesthetically beautiful, in the only way you can see giant nudes. I would love to one day see one of his sculpts in real life.
