Artist #1 Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama born in 1929 is often described as Japan’s greatest living artist. She moved to New York 1958, now is often known as the polka dot lady. She works from various mediums like painting on canvas, performance art, fashion, sculptures, and large scale installations. She is said to have hallucinations as she is on medication, and to express these she makes art. What I personally love about her work is the way she transform space. Like this piece is a public art project she did which started off as a white room. She uses repetition of the polka dot in various ways like her mirror room installation, or infinite painting with polka dots. She says she is trying to figure out the world, and her connection though these dots.
