Artist Research #5

Carl Jara is an artist that creates sand sculptures. He started out taking Illustration and Graphic Design courses at Myers School of Art in Ohio, but later realized his passion was in sculpting. He has won 9 world championship medals for his sand sculptures and has also been featured on the Travel Channel.

I chose this artist because not only are his sculptures pretty cool, he does a lot of his work in timed competitions which is really stressful I'm sure. Yet his pieces still turn out magnificent, given the circumstances. Sand is pretty difficult to work with, as anybody who had ever attempted to make a sand castle has found out. The level of detail and precision that Carl Jara brings to his sculptures is impressive and admirable.
