Artist One: Felix Gonzalez-Torres

Felix Gonzalez-Torres was born in Guaimaro, Cuba, in 1957. He died of AIDS in 1996. He is known for his minimal installations and sculptures that were made from everyday objects, such as strings, light bulbs, clocks, stacks of paper, or hard candies. His work was a reflection with his experience with AIDS.

I appreciate his work because; rather than make awareness about AIDS, he goes into greater depth of the emotional impact. For instance, the message that he is trying to get across is that, love is universal. I value his pieces because they are simple, however, they provoke so much feeling.
